Detox program

We are all taking toxic substances with our food we eat, with the water we drink, with the air we breathe, or simply by skin contact. Also human body produces super radicals and toxic waste during the digestion and elimination..Human body has to eliminate or process every poison we face.. If this process interrupted, then organs of detoxification are overloaded (liver, kidney, gallbladder, intestines, lungs and skin), then diseases start.. “Inner environmental protection system" is necessary to protect body from environmental hazardous materials..

Detoxification means reducing our intake of toxins, which we can accomplish by selecting the food we eat ( that’s why we have to eat organic food !!) Because we can not totally avoid environmental toxins, all we can do, help the body to eliminate them..

Only one day a week detox program, will help body to restore itself, dispose the toxins, regulate bowel movement, clean up liver, clear up skin, and works like body's internal purifier..

Let me explain you what is happening in your body when you are fasting or detoxing for 4-5 days:
. On the first day, body has still carbohydrate reserves that can use for energy, as soon as the reserves have been depleted, the body switches over a secondary source of energy, the fat cells, because of this change in the metabolic system, most people find it easier to eat small amount of food without feeling hungry.. That means, this change gives us more control to reduce craving while we're eating less..

Also detox program helps to reduce the size of our stomach, which will help to minimize the portion sizes.

Here is the purification recipe for you ;

The goal must be purifying your body inside and out,  head to toe from accumulated toxic waste that have interrupted your organs, affecting your energy level, slowing down your metabolism, and circulation..

During a first week of purification, you need to help your body to eliminate toxins, by fasting or partial fasting ( I prefer partial fasting ), thereby you consume certain foods or beverages, that have inner- cleaning, diuretic , and purifying properties.. If you combine your detox program with meditation and aerobic exercise the result will be greater.. While you are cleansing your body , you have to clean your mind too.. Meditation, like exercise, is something that you can not jump in to, but you have to incorporate into your life gradually..

You will be focused this week on purifying your body completely, it's best to combine with aerobic activities.. If you take a walk, walk briskly, which will induce deeper breathing, and help to increase of oxygen in body tissues.. Even if you feel weak or tried, do not eliminate physical activities.. Be sure hydrate yourself before, during and after exercise, by drinking lots of water..

During detox  it's important to clean your skin with a dry brush (exfoliates the skin, help reduce the dead skin cells ) follow by spa treatment at home..(Details are coming soon…)

1 Day Detox recipe;

Early Morning : Cup of unsweetened peppermint tea ( or any herbal tea )
Breakfast : 2 cups of herbal tea, teaspoon of honey if desired
Mid-Morning : 2 cups of fruit ( I always prefer organic blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry ), and 2 big glasses of mineral water
Lunch : 2 cups of soup ( homemade vegetable soup, recipe is coming soon… ) , and 2 glasses of mineral water
Afternoon : 2 cups of herbal or fruit tea
Dinner : 1 cup of fruit, and 1 glass of mineral water

You can start your detox program 1 day a week, and extend that whole week program if you desired.. Usually we start with couple days a week, if we feel purified, and satisfied, continue with  1 day a week program..

Recipe is in your hand now, you will decide how to use it .. Have fun..

For skin brushing during your detox program, buy a skin brush or loofah gloves. Dry brushing speeds up cleaning of toxins, which produced during normal metabolism. also helps to keep lymphatic circulation healthy. Skin brushing is something you can do before taking a bath or shower, when your skin is still dry. You can take shower after that, not during that process. Start from your feet, smoothly brush, working through your legs, then up to the arms and back. Brushing has to be towards your heart. Brushing increases your body circulation ( blood and lymph) , improves skin tone and color. Avoid the area with skin problems, cracks, vein problems, and varicose veins. I recommend dry brushing once a week during your detox program.

Detox Day Soup Recipes:

 For winter days, I like to use seasonal root vegetables as much as I can. You can make this vegetable soup with your choose of ingredients, but key point is, no butter or oil in this soup. You have to cook them just with water. Salt can be use for taste, not loaded. I prefer sea salt, because 66 % less sodium content.

Root vegetable Soup:
1 celery root
1 parsley root
1 fennel root
2 leeks
1 medium carrot
2 bay leaves
1 medium potato
Pinch of sea salt
6 cups home made veggie stock ( I made mine with veggie scraps, like carrots, broccoli stems, mushroom stems, fennel stems, fennel greens, and beet greens. Whatever left over when you are cooking with vegetables, with NO SALT added )

Peel and cut celery root, parsley root, fennel root, leeks, potato and carrot, and place them in a large saucepan with veggie stock. Add bay leaves, bring them to boil, then simmer on low heat 25-30 minutes.
You can have this soup in 3 ways;
When the soup cool enough, you can puree the ingredients,
Strain them, and use just liquid part as a soup. 
Or simply eat them as they are.

I’ve mentioned home spa treatment above during your detox program. As I said before, detox is cleaning inside and out, body and mind. Relaxation exercise can be combine to that program. Here are some fresh ideas for your special day.

The bath formula help moisturize and scent the skin as well as relax whole body and mind. Relax and enjoy your bath for not more than 30 minutes, otherwise your skin will become dehydrated. Always follow the bath with whole body moisturizer and aromatherapy sprays.
This special blend gives your skin silky softness and refreshing scent.

Blanched or slivered almonds, enough to make 1/3 cup almond powder
3 cups powder milk
1/3 cup oatmeal
¼ cup dried lavender leaves and flowers
2 capsules vitamin E ( break into dry ingredients)
1/3 cup cornstarch
In a blender or food processor, grind almonds into a fine powder. Mix almond powder with powdered milk, oatmeal, vitamin E , cornstarch and lavender leaves until combine thoroughly. Put 1 cup of mixture onto a small sheet of muslin pouch, and tie securely with a string. Attach pouch to the bathtub faucet, allowing warm water run over it. You can store remaining mixture in an airtight container for next use.

You can grow your own lavender in your garden or in a planter. I always collect lavender flowers and leaves, for aromatherapy baths, making relaxing teas, making hot oil for massaging, decorating summer dishes, and salads.

Many factors may affect the health of your skin, including genetic,hormones,diet,stress,pollution,climate and aging. Basicly your skin reflects how well your internal organs are working in a balance, and your body's vitamin and mineral needs. So eating right directly related and affecting your skin health. Not just your skin, your hair,nail can show first alarming signal for deficiencies. Besides everyday regimen of eating heathy, we also have to do:

-Drink plenty of drinking water ( not tap water please,which can carry unwanted minerals and chemicals to your body) at least 6-8 glasses ever day.During hot summer days or excessive exercise, you may need more than that.

 -While you are avoiding bad fats, you have to get enough essential fatty acids for healthy skin, such as whole grains, seeds, nuts, soybeans, avocados, dark leaf green vegetables and fish especially wild caught salmon,mackerel etc.

 -Avoid caffeine and alcohol.

-Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruits especially berries as antioxidants

 -Include lots of fiber in your daily regimen. If your digestive system works well,and keep clean inside of your body, it will show off through your skin.
-Even if you are getting facial treatment from professionally, you still have to do mini facial days ( weekends are perfect for that ) at home to maintain skin beauty.

-Cleaning skin morning and night time essential for healthy skin even if you don't have any make up. Use your your fingertips or soft brush with foam or cream form cleaner and gently massage to skin. Dry  with soft towel. With soft-cotton facial pad, apply toner ( appropriate to skin type ) then apply eye cream on the corner of eyes ( crow's feet area ). Apply daily serum ( when you are aging you'll need deferent kind serums ) and repair serum to skin. Wait couple minutes for drying, and finish with day or night cream. This is a basic treatment for every day and night. Mini facial days you may add couple masks and oil treatment to basic one. I'll give you "home made products recipes " soon, that anyone can enjoy and use at home everyday.

-Avoid sun exposure to your skin as much as you can. Besides increasing risk of skin cancer, sun is the biggest blaming factor for skin aging. Use your sun glasses even in winter days. Always use sun protection rain or shine.
 -Regular cardio exercise will improve skin health. Increase blood circulation means,delivering more oxygen to organs and skin and at the same time removing existing toxins from same organs. Skin color and tone will improve immediately.

Your detox day is like a spring cleaning.You have to clean your colon (large intestine) and liver.Some people may prefer to extend their detox to two,three or even four days.This will be okay if you feel you are ready and if you previously experimented with detox day before.Some people might experience emotional crisis when going through a long detox days.If you experience hunger attacks during your detox days,you can drink more herbal teas or veggie juices ( my elixir recipe is perfect for that ).You can have more soup too.Plenty of liquid is important,must be 2 quarts a day with combination of warm water and juices.In addition,herbal teas and juices act like natural diuretics,decreasing the water retention in body. So plenty of drinks important for detox.
Here is another detox day recipe for you:

Early morning:
Start a day with stretching, and calming yourself with breathing exercise (also you can do short meditation practise )
-1 large glass of warm water with lemon ( will be the first bowel cleaner for the day )
-1 cup of nettle tea or mint tea

Breakfast :
You can choose fruit or vegetable juice. Fruit must be at room temperature.Eat enough so that you will not be hungry,chew slowly and well.Choose from,apples,pears,pineapples,papayas,peaches,watermelons,apricots,and of course berries.For vegetable juice see "home made drink" section for recipes.

10:00 am. break:
Drink cup or two herbal tea.During detox day you will take several tea breaks.You can not drink caffeine loaded black tea,you can drink; nettle,dandelion,camomile,echinacea,mint etc.

11:00 am. break:
Fruit juice: Choose seasonal fruit,freshly squeezed with juicer. See the juicing ideas on "home made drink"section..

Congratulations! You've made it so far.Choose from your lunch one of them.
Raw vegetables
Raw salads
Vegetable soup
Grains such as millet,quinoa,wild rice..

Early afternoon break :
Cup of herbal tea

3:00 pm.juice break:
1 glass of freshly squeezed detox juices

4:00 pm. snack break:
Cup of herbal tea and sunflower or pumpkin seeds (handful)

5:30-6:00 pm. dinner:
You are almost finish your big day. You can eat raw salad and small amount of grain for dinner.

7:30 pm. break:
Warm water with lemon

8:00 pm: skin dry brush:

8:30 pm:
Soak in a milk bath or mineral bath. This amazing bath will be your reward for end of long day. This is not just for women,men can enjoy this beautiful bath,too.

9:00 pm :
Go to bed early as possible.For gallbladder and liver,their detox process work generally around midnight. If you are not in bed at 11:00 pm,you will disturb the natural cleaning process of your body.

Important Foods On Your Detox Program:

Mung beans contain very high protein (close to 24 % ) and vitamin B1.They are the best alternative source of vegetable protein. Vitamin B1 helps to maintain memory and brain function.
Mung beans are a low-calorie food with only 30 calories in a 1-cup serving. They also provide nearly 2 grams of dietary fiber in each cup. A high-fiber diet can help you control your weight because foods with fiber tend to be more satisfying so you eat less.
Mung beans provide about 14 mg of vitamin C per cup, according to the USDA. This is nearly 25 percent of the daily value for vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential vitamin for your immune system as well as the cartilage in your joints and blood vessels. A deficiency can lead to poor wound healing and bleeding gums. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and it may reduce your risk for cataracts or coronary heart disease.
Our modern days methods of cooking grains are insufficient at making the nutrients bioavailable to us. The newest research is showing that most grains really should be soaked or fermented before cooking. This is very similar to the process we use soaking beans overnight before cooking. In grains, this soak is shown to improve nutritional value and benefits.
Mung beans are the most eatable form bean sprouts. Cooked mung beans work well in soups and stir-fries and you can add raw mung bean sprouts to sandwiches or salads. Don’t forget like any other beans,wash them well before you eat them. You should not eat mung beans or any kind of sprouts raw when you are pregnant because they may have harmful bacteria.
If you soaked mung beans overnight in dark room, they transform to sprout form which provide very important nutritional value in our diet. You can use this sprout form in salads and sandwiches,stir-fries,juicing with other vegetables and fruits or just for garnishing.
Mung beans are good helper cleaning the colon and digestive system.Make sure,they are incorporated in your diet  especially during detox days.
Since an ancient days, mung beans and brown rice diet used for cleaning the colon. Cleaning colon (large intestine) is an important step during your detox days. Colon cleaning can be done in  professional clinics or in your home with home remedy products. You can substitute brown rice with quinoa,millet or buckwheat,if you want.

                                                                                          Skin Care Creams:
Smoothing Body Lotion:

3 tablespoons sunflower oil
2 tablespoons almond oil
2 tablespoon peanut oil
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon wheat germ oil
6 drops perfume

Mix all the oils,add perfume. Smooth onto skin with circular motion, take excess oils with towel. Stay with oils at least 15 minutes,then you can take a shower.


Juniper Berry Winter Rub:

¼ cup lanolin
¼ cup safflower oil
2 tablespoons juniper berry oil
½ cup water

In a blender,mix lanolin, safflower oil, and juniper berry oil until blended well.Slowly add water on low speed.Use spatula to scrape down and keep mixture around the blades.
Rub your whole body with winter rub with circular motion, then take a shower and rinse.

                                                                                  For Hair Oil Treatments:

Sandalwood Hot Oil Treatment:

½ cup olive oil
½ cup boiling water
5 drops sandalwood essential oil

Whisk all the ingredients until blended,allow to cool slightly. Massage into hair.Cover your hair with shower cap and wrap your head with a hot towel. Leave treatment at least ½  hour,then shampoo and rinse.

Rosemary Hot Oil Treatment:

½ cup dried rosemary leaves
½ cup olive oil

In a small saucepan, heat rosemary leaves and olive oil,until warm. Strain the mixture and remove rosemary leaves.Use the strained oil to cover scalp and hair. Cover your hair with shower cap and wrap your head with a hot towel. Leave the treatment at least 15 minutes, then shampoo and rinse.

Usually sugar and roll oats are natural exfoliant for hands and feet.

Hand Exfoliant:

1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon coarse sugar
½ teaspoon water

Mix together,rub gently onto hands.Rinse with warm water.

Hand Cream:

1/3 cup glycerin
2/3 cup water
3 drops sandalwood essential oil

Put glycerin,water, and oil together in a bottle,and shake well.Massage gently onto hands.Store mixture in a cool, dark place.
